Before We Began

When we bought the house, we weren’t starting from scratch. Generations of owners had already cared for it, altered it, repaired it and, importantly, saved a remarkable amount of its original character.

These photographs show the house as we inherited it in 2019, before our own round of restoration began. Some things clearly needed attention. Others simply needed to be left alone.

Our approach has been to keep what works, restore what can be saved, and make changes carefully enough that the house still feels like itself.
